John Muir and Barbara Reid were married in 1875. They lived and worked at Newbigging, a croft on the island of Eday, Orkney, where their 8 children were born. After John's death in 1902, the family moved to the mainland of Scotland. Most of the family including Barbara eventually settled in America.

Leaving Eday in the late 1890's, David, a blacksmith, worked in Glasgow where he met and married Helen Rae in 1898. In the early 20th century, they moved first to northern England and then to the midlands. David died aged only 49.

After

living in Niagara Falls, Johnny moved to British Columbia, where he was a successful house-builder and realtor. He never married.

Jimmy, a carpenter and joiner, was the first Muir to settle in the USA. He married Mary Low. They had no children.

Although Barbara went to join the family in Niagara Falls in 1914, she later returned to Scotland to marry William Stobo. They lived in Kilburnie and adopted a daughter, Caroline.

Frank moved to Niagara Falls in 1913. He married Julia Grant in 1917and their daughter Betty was born the following year. The family moved to California and they settled in Long Beach.

Bob Muir first went to Niagara Falls in 1911. He married Edith May Hoak in 1917. The following year he was drafted into the US Army and served in France. They had two sons, the younger living only 3 years. Bob was a carpenter and designed and built his own home. He and Edith were staunch members of the Presbyterian Church.

Will moved from Niagara Falls to nearby Lewiston after his marriage to Elizabeth (Bessie) Macpherson, a Canadian, in 1930. Will was a carpenter and he built his own home. The couple were devout church-goers. They had no children.

Mary lived in Niagara Falls since 1914. Her first husband Bert Reid died in 1929, when Mary was only 32. In 1938 She married a widower James Wesley Chatterton.

Born in Scotland, John moved to several locations in England as a child until the family finally settled in the midlands. He worked at a drop forge. He was a creative person and a keen photographer. In 1935 he married Gladys Gould and they lived in Birmingham where their son was born.

Moving with the family from Scotland to England, David settled permanently in West Bromwich. When young he played drums in a band. He became manager of a timber yard. In 1938 David married Winnie Farmer, and they had two children.

Born in Leeds, Mary trained as a milliner when the family lived in West Bromwich. In 1945 she married Joe Whyte and moved to Scotland. They had no children.

Barbara worked for a doctor in West Bromwich for 20 years. In 1937 she married Bill Davis and they had one daughter. In 1947 they moved to Birmingham, and from 1990 spent their final retirement years in North Wales.

Born in Manchester and growing up in West Bromwich, Irene spent most of her working life in the Civil Service. She moved from Birmingham to Wales in 1989.

Betty grew up in California. In 1942 she married Hugh Winter and they had 2 sons. Betty worked for the Bank of America. She lives in Long Beach.

Born in Niagara Falls, Bob attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Working in Buffalo he met Gerte Fleischmann and they married in 1943. After serving in the US Navy Bob worked for the Buffalo Forge Company in Boston . He and Gerte had 3 children, settling in Reading, Mass. but with a summer cottage in New Hampshire. Bob was respected in both the community and in business.

David grew up and lives in Birmingham. He married Sylvia Butt in 1961 and they have 3 children. Most of David's working life was with British Telecom. He gained a BA (Hons) degree from the Open University, and more recently trained as a hypnotherapist.

Born in West Bromwich, Jean worked for the Civil Service before her marriage to Tony Shepherd in 1966. They live in Aldridge and have 2 daughters. She later worked for a small engineering company. Jean has visited Orkney and done much research into the Muir lineage.

David grew up in West Bromwich and moved to the Bournemouth area in 1975, where he is a stockbroker. In1984 he married Christine Jones and they now live near Wimborne, Dorset.

Most of Joan's childhood was spent in Birmingham. She lived in New York for 6 years and then south east England, working for British Airways. In 1979 Joan married Peter Curtis. They moved to Malvern and in 1988 to North Wales.

Hugh Winter lives in Laguna Hills, California with his wife Nancy. He has 3 children and 3 step-children.

Andy Muir grew up in Massachusetts. After graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute he was employed by Buffalo Forge Company in Kansas City, but later started his own business. He married Laura Smith in1976 and has a step-daughter, Alexis.

After graduating from college Liz moved from Boston to Chicago, but later returned to Massachusetts, her writing career now concerned with pharmaceutical developments. Currently working independently, Liz also enjoys painting and creative writing.

Ken studied at Harvard, in Europe and in San Francisco, where he now lives. He plays piano professionally and has a jazz trio. He and his wife Margaret Rueger have one son.

Neil was born in Birmingham. Leaving London University with a PhD, he developed computer systems while working for an American consultancy firm, in the UK and later Thailand. He has now settled in Bangkok and works for IBM. Neil enjoys playing guitar.

After attending Art College, Ian was employed in the commercial art industry, but later started his own Art Company and now paints for a living. He also writes music and plays guitar in a band. He and his partner Lucie live in Birmingham.

Wendy graduated from Coventry University and later worked in hospital personnel. She married a surgeon Jamal Abdulkarim in 1998 and they have 2 children. They moved to Leamington Spa in 2006.

Juliet grew up in Aldridge and trained as a nurse. She married Mark Smith in 1989 and they have two daughters. Mark joined the Police Force after leaving the army and the family now live in Cornwall.

After graduate and post-graduate studies at Nottingham and Sheffield Universities, Andrea joined the Probation Service. In 2001 she married Gerard Kelly and they have a son and a daughter. They live in London.
